LOL BB, I took 2 degrees out of the timing and jetted it down 2 sizes both primary and secondary. We'll see how it likes that.

Oh and I also richened up the idle just a hair, about 1/4 turn on just the primary 4 corner screws. I got all done with that and the throttle response seemed excellent, no hesitation at all. I got it warmed up to 180 and gave it a launch in front of the garage and it launched great! (good thing I have cool neighbors).

Sunday, it.s the first race in the points series I race in. I run in the Sportsman and Pro brackets. It's part of the NHRA Summit Racing Equipment racing series. We are in division 3 here, there are like 23 tracks in div 3. It's a 12 race series, at the end of the year each track forms a team of 32 from the 4 brackets (Sportsman,Pro,Super Pro, and Motorcycle. Those teams compete against each other in Indy at Lucas Oil Raceway in September. The winners of the 4 brackets there then go on to the National finals at Pomona in the last NHRA pro race of the year, and the NHRA kicks in $3500 to the winners of division 3 to off set their cost to get to Pomona. I've been having a blast with it so far, last season I finished 8th out of 42 in the Sportsman bracket and made the team. I finished like 32nd out of 180 in Indy and actually finished in the money. The coolest part of last year though was one of our racers won the div 3 finals in the Super Pro bracket and went on to Pomona.

Sounds like you're getting it worked out gramps. ( I kinda feel disrespectful saying that to you! ) What size carb did you wind up going with for the E85?

The pic in my avatar is a flyer for a race last year at Milan they put my truck on it, that's the big thing with all the guys to get their race rig on the flyer during the year (obviously it doesn't take much to entertain us LOL). Here's a bigger shot of it. Click on the pic to enlarge it.

Triplenickle, I talked to Justus about the carb initially. And told him I wanted to switch to e85 but that I thought a 1050 Dominator would be way too much carb for my 355. I told him that I would be building a 421 SBC this upcoming off season to put my truck in the low 10 range, but I didn't want to buy a carb (750) this year and then a 1050 next year if I could avoid it. Justus said he could set the 1050 up to work with my current set up this season, then next season when I put the 421 in it he would set the 1050 up to work with the 421 for a very reasonable price, so I went for it. I'm real happy with the whole thing right now but as always time will tell how this works out. One of the things I hadn't brought up in my previous posts was the reasons I wanted to go to E85. One thing is it cuts my cost of racing down nicely last year I was paying $7.75/gal for 110 race gas. Today I paid $1.89/gal for E85, the other big thing I was looking for was the consistency I was reading about from a lot of people. If you're bracket racing consistency is everything, now I've only put a handful of runs on the truck but Sunday my last qualifying pass was 11.7488, the next run I red lighted in the pro bracket (I know nice job!) but the truck ran 11.7486, that's some serious consistency and I'll take that all year long. The next pass was a win in the Sportsman bracket but it was a no brainer I drove around the guy and shut it down at the MPH trap and coasted to the finish line and ran 11.83xx. And hey don't feel disrespectful I was a fireman for 23 years I have way thicker skin than that to let something like that get to me LOL.

The rear tires ar Hoosier 26x10x15, they hook up great at 14 psi and for this set up they work perfect I shift at 6100 rpm and I go thru the traps right at 6100 rpm. Thats with 3.73 gears, GM truck 12 bolt with Cal-Tracs and a TCI turbo 400 manual shift reverse valve body 3000 stall converter from freakshow performance, on the foot brake. Next season the entire drive line will be new 421, power glide with a brake from freakshow again and a new rear end as well. I plan on buying another car to put the current drive train in and make a Sportsman bracket car out of that and run the truck in the Pro bracket (the cut off for sportsman bracket is 11.50). Some people despise bracket racing but for me it keeps my old fart butt happy and I can afford to race it.

As for the tire size the truck sits level nicely with this set up and launches great with excellent weight transfer. Here's a pic of the launch on that red light run that I can't get oriented right so it's annoyingly sideways but you get the idea. Again click on it to enlarge it.

Looks good! Bracket racing is all me & my son do. It's the toughest racing there is in my opinion! I have some interest in index racing for a change of pace, but the tracks that I go to don't have index classes. I would have to travel a little further than I would like.

Absolutely cool triplenickle, I really like the index racing too, they run it here on the pro tree. They only ran one index race last year to judge the interest level and the turnout was only fair. I'd love it if they ran a index race like once a month or so.

most of us guy's on here are bracket guys, my new car is done all I have left is replacing a few bars on the cage and a little sheet metal work, this car will run 6.40's-6.50's @ 105ish in the 1/8th and 10.20's @ 128ish in the 1/4, we use to run NHRA down here and I done it all the time from 2000-2004 ran every points race and made the finals team race at 2 tracks in 2 of the 4 years, and in 2002 I got down to 7 cars at the division finals and went red in the 7th round, was a long ride home from Montgomery, AL to south Florida, anyway I ran E-85 in the Buick for a couple years and it cut the racing cost a bunch, in 2010 race gas (110) was 12.50 a gallon in so. FL. fast forward to today my T-bird is already set up to run E-85 and I'm friggn' ready to make some passes
