Sorry Guys the 2 passes I made yesterday the 1st one after going up on the timing to 38* I jetted it down from a 107 squared to 103's squared. It ran a 10.91 @ 120 and a 6.91 1/8th mile. So after I took the plug out it was white all the way around and very lean no color on ground strap. So I bumped it up to a 105 squared it ran a better 10.70 at 125 and a 6.80 1/8 @ 101.56. I drained all the old fuel out the other night when I found it was not even close to what we need to run. I dont know if I should take it all apart and make sure I dont have any junk in my filters. I drained it at the spin on filter at the rear and there was a bit of junk in it. Looked to be black plastic out of the cell. Or should I go back to 30* total timing and chase my original tune. I still have not figured out how it moved but the motor has not ran the same since it did. I am very careful to screen my fuel when I jug it when I put it in the car and its not shown any bogging or that. Its gotten harder to start as its at 22* at startup but its like theres a fuel blockage during startup. The weird part is the car never showed any signs of not running right until I went to a new drag strip but my 2 boys were with me and they wont let anyone near my car. I think I need to go thru and check my 3 filters and the carb and start off at 30* total timing and see if I can get it back on track.

What were the 60' times. I would put timing back down around 32 to 34 & try it. Keep jetting up until it falls off, then goe back 2-3 numbers. I don't believe you'll see as good of numbers as earlier in the year, so don't be too hung up on that. Looking for consistency, correct?

X-2 what nickel said, its getting hotter outside now so the numbers won't be the same, look for it to repete it self

Yes consistancy is what makes a winning car not speed. I found a major issue tonight. Got a bad head gasket must have just went bad . But we just locked in the distributor today and set it at 32* set the jetting at 100's and it kept smelling rich. So we started searching found a small leak in the front of the head behind the motor plate. Going to take it apart tomorrow and put a new set of head gaskets on it. Then the intake and put her back together so I can Race at Norwalk Ohio this weekend hopefully I can get a decent tune in it before we leave. The car runs steady when its running 6.70's its all it runs but same when its 6.60's or 6.80's just trying to make good clean hits with it. I know I been chasing a water leak for the last 2 weeks and we found it today even got into the oil too. But I will get it straight tomorrow.!!! I will keep you guys posted.

I think the 100's will be lean. I would go back to at least 104, even 105 to start. When you say it smells rich, is the idle what you're referring to?

yes Chris he said that its rich at idle, so maybe he needs to install larger Idle Air Bleed jets to make it leaner at idle???

Bean, that's one way to do it, but I would start with the idle mixture screws. If they have to be turned in to where they're less than a turn from seated, then it's probably time to go bigger on IAB. The idle circuit is independent from the main circuit, so jetting up or down doesn't affect the idle.

Well we put her back together today had a head gasket go bad so I pulled both heads and changed them both. It always had a running warm issue when it was on race fuel but it would purge into the stock puketank but would always recover. When I went to e85 it stopped doing it. Well this year its been alot faster but we were all over the place with our running temps I thought it was because we are using a smaller radiator but I put a big Meziere electric pump on it and it was hard to keep the temp steady in the motor. Well I was not running a Thermostat just had a Racing washer in its place. As the gaskets broke down it was getting harder to cool. And that really messed my tune ups up because it was making me think lean. I put a 160 Thermostat in it and I ran it for a good 45 minutes after we fired it up and set the Timing at 32 degrees and now the Distributor is locked in we eliminated the centrifical advance. I also ran it around my sub division for 15 minutes left home @ 160* and stayed that way until I got back and done a good hard hit on it and it went to 175 but it left zero in the puke tank and it is running clean. The inside of the motor had zero carbon a little oil staining here and there but it cleaned up like a new motor with a touch of brake clean. I only have 98 Jets in it but I had a new set of 150 needles and seats and a better set of accellerator pump rubbers so I put them in and its really doing fine so far. Going to Norwalk this weekend that will tell the tale. I will keep you guys posted

Hey John, Just curious as to the reason for 98 jets.

I had moved it from 105's to 102's and when It was running it was smelling really rich. I had also jumped the plugs to a colder plug thinking maybe that was my problem. But when we found it the car was in the garage and it was running us out with the 102's so I dropped it to 98's just to see if it would clear up the rich fumes. It was having a hard time idleing with any jets because of the head gasket problem but that was before we knew about it. While it was down Zi took the carb apart and totally cleaned it up. Put the 150 needles and seats in it and some upgraded accellerator pump rubbers that had bigger steels on them. I also put the Jets back to 101's my son reminded me of that last night so its got 101's in it and its really running good now but I have not made a pass on it. I will tomorrow at Norwalk and if its not pulling well I am going to move it up. Just want to get a steady number out of it until I can test and tune it. I will get a good plug reading on it before I jet it so I can try and zero it in. Those gaskets were going bad for some time but it never dropped a cylinder so it was hard to detect. Hopefully its cured that issue and now I can get some type of steady numbers out of it. I will get back with you tomorrow I only get 2 test passes before we race but I do get a buy back so it gives me a bit of room to figure things out. Talk to you then Race safe!!!

Changing the main jets doesn't affect the idle. Idle circuit is a separate circuit from the main circuit. If the idle is fat, try turning your idle mixture screws in. Go 1/4 turn at a time. The change doesn't come as fast as on gas. Give it 30 sec or so. You have to find the balance between good idle & not causing a flat spot because the idle is too lean. Good luck in Norwalk!

Thanks for the heads up on the Idle circuit. I am going to run a set of 103's today its cool out with clouds and see how it pulls and we can go from there thanks triple nickle
