I am wondering, do I need to buy a EGT meter to properly set-up the E-85 conversion? Where is the best place to "place" the probe in the header? Thanks.

Not a necessity, just a tool we use to let us know if we are getting close to the melting point. I will say it has saved us a time or two on our blower motor when we were trying some off the wall things but just knowing were to start with E85 which is 25 to 30% richer is really all you need to know. Then just read plugs, watch water temp. and track mph to tune from there.

Hey motioncam. I think you are the guy I sent the big spark plug cross reference sheet to(a couple of times). I got a used EGT from a guy but part of the probe is missing. So I'm not sure if I am going to be able to use it or not. I was told the best location to place the probe is about 1.5 inches from the exhaust port/flange. On a SBC I was told it's a good idea to put it in one of the center two header tubes(on either side) since they are right next to each other and would be hotter there.
My first day out with E85(last Sunday) I just went by Heath's suggestions and everything worked awesome, so I may not even mess with the EGT unless I really feel a need for it later on.

I put my probe about 1.5 inches off of the flange on the #8 cylinder. Basically just a safetly feature. I run between 1200-1250 giong through the 1/8 mile.

Hello David, I have that spark plug data saved in a couple places now, that has been a great help. I have a Fluke thermo at work, but the range is only 1275 F. I am going to make the change over to E85 in a couple of weeks. How much did your ride pick-up after the change? The only drawback that I see (on my part), is that the closest station is about 2.5 hrs away, this is one way. My Father-in-law works in that area during the week, and he can bring it to me on the Friday's, so that helps greatly. Did any of you guys change your plugs after making the switch? I am using the Autolite AR133 currently, that is what Dart recomended. Thanks for the replies.

AR 133 is what we run motioncam. That's with the blower though. You may want something like the AR 135 for natural aspiration. A cold plug is hard to start sometimes.

Motioncam, Can't say EXACTLY how much I picked up because I just bit the bullet and made the swap without making any laps on gas this season. If you look at my email Heath posted on his website, my car made the fastest pass it has ever made right out of the trailer with no tuning. Just did what Heath suggested and it is almost perfect. Hard to say, but I'm guessing I picked up somewhere in the neighborhood of .15 to .25 second and 2-3 MPH over the gas setup.
We are pretty lucky here. Several E85 stations within 30 minutes or so. 2.5 hours drive is gonna suck but you will love how it runs.
