Hey Guys, I am new here and had to laugh when someone talked about switching to e-85 because of $8.00 a gallon 110. (no disrespect I just wish my fuel was only $8)
I run Sunoco 116 here in Oregon at $12.50 a gallon. I want to look at e-85 on my setup
I have a Shafiroff 555 at 15-1 compression. Heads are Dart CNC 355's milled back down to 114cc chambers. I currently run #96 jets on all four corners.
My '68 Firebird chassis car runs 9.25 e.t. at 147 mph. I am hoping to save money and get the cooling effect of Alcohol.
Carb. is a Barry Grant 1090dr annular with billet blocks. I talked to B-G and they are "working on" a conversion but maybe not available until next season.
My fuel system is a Magnafuel Pro Star 500 #12 push loc hose to the regulator at the carb. I don't run a return because the Magnafuel pump is internal bypass to the tank via a return. I have an aluminum fuel cell w/ foam.
Will this work, and who makes a conversion for it.

Welcome bigblockbird. We see your point and feel your pain. Your fuel system sounds fine for E85 and I can get you a kit together that will work, no problem on your King Demon but be advised that (based on our experience) you are pushing the envelope on pump grade E85 with your current combination. Yes we are running small blocks successfully at that compression and I'm not an expert engine builder but the cubes like you have seem to need more octane. It has something to do with quench area and flame travel over such a big piston or something like that. I'm not saying it won't work and I can certainly get your carb fixed up for it. I just want you to be fully inform to make your decision.

FWIW,
There is a guy on moparts.com who has built several big inch mopars, one (572 or 608 Hemi), cant remember which making over 1400HP on pump E85. Around 16 to 1 compression.
I may be wrong, but a BB Mopar usually has a bigger bore than a BBC. Hemi Im not sure on bore size, but I can tell you that a Hemi has horrible quench.

I'm running a 540 BBC. 119 cc Profilers. ~13:1 Same carb as you. I do have quite a bit of piston work done as well as a combustion chamber trick to help propagate the flame. The plan is to spray 300-400 worth of spray as well on E85. I used C12 with 11.69:1 compression before with the spray.
Heath did my conversion after it got buggered up a bit due to inaccurate instructions. Check my post history for my trials and tribulations on getting the thing tuned.
Right now I'm waiting for the dyno to be repaired and available before my engine goes on it again. We have a good idea what was going on so I'm looking forward to just a few more pulls to get it dialed in (hopefully).
I'm just up here in the Spokane area. If you were a bit closer, we could have just bolted it on to see what happens.
FYI, there is a big Bracket Bash at Spokane County Raceway Jul31-Aug2. 5k, 10k, 5k for Super Por.

Hey Guys,
Sorry for bringing up this old threat but I just bought a drag race car and it has the same carbs. Two Barry Grant 1090 carbs. I want to switch them to E85 but there's not much information and parts available for this carbs. I usually am a Quickfuel guy but I can't afford to buy new carbs after buying a whole car. Do you have any part/information source for this carbs to be converted to e85? Demon didn't even answer my emails..
Thanks in advance Franz

I would call or email the owners of this board. Go to raceone85.com Call or email Justus. He'll get you what you need.
