Having some problems with fuel starvation at the top end. Going along good and at about 3/4 track the car leans over and the PSI on the fuel pump gauge drops from about 11 PSI to 3 PSI or less. Hard to tell because its bouncing a bit. I am currently using a BG-280, I have a 100 micron mesh filter installed pre-pump and a 85 micron mesh filter installed at the regulator. Had some problems with gunk getting into the float needle hence the two filters. All of this is running through 10an line to the regulator and 8an from the regulator to the carb. Anyone think I could be limiting my fuel supply by running the two filters or some guys at the track said I need a bigger pump. Oh, and all of this is feeding what is normally a 10.80 second chevy small block engine. Thanks.

Welcome Peter. Did this problem start when you added the fuel filters? That fuel pump should be sufficient if working properly. What type of fuel?

I was running a BG-280 for years on race gas. This is a replacement one that I got off ebay to run the E-85 fuel. On my last runs last year I had the same thing happen a little closer to the finish line and ran a 10.98 but on that run i was only using a holley blue 110 GPH which we found out really only puts out about 75 GPH. So I am feeling that it may very well be the filters.

I agree with you about the filters. I would remove the one at the regulator first & try it.

Welcome Peter, do you have one of those fram chrome and orange filters that has a changeable insert?? if so that thing only flows 90 GPH so if you have that filter assy chunk it and get the inline s/s ones and your fuel pressure is set way to high, it should be 6-6.5 lbs flowing, I have used a BG280 and now have a BG400 and I can't tell the difference. good luck and keep us posted
also be sure that the vent to the tank is not clogged up with dirt dobbers or something like that.

I currently have a canister type filter stainless mesh from aeromotive mounted at the rear of the car before the fuel pump. I have a small inline stainless mesh one installed near the front of the car at the entrance to the regulator. Was planning on removing the inline one at the regulator and seeing how things go.
