Ok I pulled my carb off there was a bit of small black dust in the fuel bowls. I also took my squirters off to check them out and make sure they were clean and I found what looked to be a black rubber washer around the top of the screw. I cleaned them up and pulled off my accellerator pumps the primary was clean and looked good but it was not a e85 type rubber on the diaphram it was also a 30cc and I pulled of the rear accellerator pump and yuck it was really hard and crusted up with a white powdery stuff I used some penetrating oil to clean it up but it was nasty also it was a standard black rubber Diaphram. So I called quickfuel and ordered a kit as some of the gaskets are looking rough and I plan on taking this all apart and doing a real good cleaning on it. Maybe the rear accellerator pump was failing I dont know but it was really caked with that white powdery junk. Anyways I picked up some new jets so once I get this calmed down I can start jetting this thing for speed after I get the system cleaned up. I am going to pull my plugs which were really running rich yesterday and put a new set in and index those so they fire right.

Hey Bean or Triple Nickle do you guys have any idea who had the chart that showed what your carb was jetted at on gas and where it should be on e85. I know I seen the chart but now I cannot find it. I dont know if it would even help me get close as I was running a 1050 Dominator on the gas with 88 jets in all four corners. But now I have the Quickfuel 1050 center section on the 4150 flange and its got 94's up front and 102's in the rear. I have a complete gasket kit along with some new filters and a rebuild kit for my Regulator. I would love to get a handle on this thing I found both needle and seats were caked up and just alot of cleaning. Its got a 30cc acellerator pump in the primary's and a 50cc in the secondary's but that one was caked up too. Neither one was a e85 type rubber diaphram but I got those coming in a day or so. Keeping my fingers crossed!!!!

my 8896-2 1050 dommy had 96 square and no power valves, when Justus converted it over it was jetted 104 square and no power valves! my new carb is a 1050 that is jetted 105 square and no power valves, I don't use power valves in my race carbs at all.

Well guys I got a full kit from QFT and replaced my 130 needles and seats for a set of 150's also replaced a couple of Red gaskets that were coming apart all new washers on everything new 50cc acellerator pump diaphram thats e85 type and a new 30cc acellerator pump Diaphram thats also e85 set up replaced a couple of the no stick gaskets that were starting to come apart. Also new 4corner adjustment needles. New base gasket done a really good job of cleaning everything up. I installed a Earls in line Fuel filter just before my regulator which I also rebuilt. Iset my floats at just a hair above dead center. Turned all 4 corner screws out 1 full turn I also bought a jet kit from QFT from 75's to125's 4 of each for 89.00 which seemed like a deal. But anyways it fired up like a beast no problems I went out snd made a couple short passes at a good spot I have to test and so far no blubbering very responsive and seems to be better than before. I just want to take it out and get a couple timeslips and see what I done. So Far So Good.

Not yet it was way too cold to even think about taking the car out also its hard to fire up when its cold I think its cause its too rich. A squirt of gas though and its like off like a prom dress. Plus I had my fan out the old one was slowing down bigtime but I put a new one in and finished it today. Lite the fuse and she took off. We have a old geezers race this week at our track along with our regular Money class I am gonna drop a couple sizes on the jetting as its a bit rich but man its got a ton of response just a slight hesitation if its under 150 degrees. But it only got to the mid 50's today and she would not lite up without a 110 shot. I gotta get some numbers this week. Once its running it starts up no problem and with the new fan it took 20 minutes to get it to 150 today.

its not jetting, when it gets below 45/50* its very hard to start because its ethanol and its like alky they are hard to crank in the cold you did the rite thing by adding a little gas to get her going, thats the way you will have to start it in the cold a squirt of gas and let it get up to temp, good luck. you see we don't have that problem down here in south west Florida, LOL!!!

Well maybe I need to drag my car down south so I can keep on racing. Boy that would get me in big trouble with my wife. I know the gas thing works great but she takes 2 people as it tends to pop a bit of fire out if its not done right. Also I am going to go get a vaccume guage tomorrow so I can set my 4 corner idle correctly. When I put the new QFT parts in the carb last week I replaced the power valve and the needle and seats went from 130 to 150 thats what QFT said should be in there. I have a 30cc pump in the primary and a 50cc pump in the secondary but no power valve in the secondary's. Man I sure hope our weather holds up this week I need to get in some passes to get it dialed in. Now once I have had it running I can come back 3 or 4 hours later and as soon as I hit the key its running. I just have a feeling its a bit too rich. But we will see Have a good one Bean I will send you some numbers this week!!

Well guys I got to go make 4 passes today I had dropped my jets from 94 to 92's and 102's to 100's as the plugs were staying wet. First 2 passes were made right off the trailer at 48* outside car ran a 10.90 first pass then a 10.89 second pass I had pulled a couple plugs and they were looking just a bit hot so I jumped to a 93 in the primary's left the 100's in it the 3rd pass was a 10.85 and the 4th pass was a 10.88 in the other lane. Car was really rock steady consistant and I still have a bit of room to jet up. Plugs had a white ring around the bottom some color on the strap. I went to a NGK #6 heat range plug and the car can sit in the staging lane for 20 minutes and not load up and not get over 155 degrees with the fan on. Needless to say I was very happy it performed great there was over 100 cars at our track they were grudge racing trophy braket racing and doing test N tunes in between. Well not wanting to get good Data every pass I did not get greedy with it. Also I am only at 30* total timing so like I say I got room to play but its a really happy car right now. Its 3800 lbs without me in it so I am happy as I can be and I will keep tuning it until I get into 10.70's I know its there no problem. Then when I get my Dominator converted its only going to get better. YESSS!!!!

good job and glad to here its going well, why only 30* timing??? thats kinda low for total timing, my Buick was a steel headed engine and I was using 38 to 40* total, anyway it looks like a 10.70 is not out of the question, you need to let the engine get up to 170* before leaving the line it will run way better the fuel needs the engine warmer to burn efficiently so you may pick up more. anyway make sure you put some stay-bill in the fuel before you put it up for the winter.

Well we Raced today I jetted it up to a 94 up front 102 in secondary's. First pass this morning and it was a heavy frost last night was a 10.80 then a 10.82 it ran very well but our track was way cold not well sprayed and went away before we got into the show real good. But it feels like the tires are blowing off alot easier and in the burnouts its not even noticable when you shift into 2nd gear feels like more torque and HP. Car was running 6.85's to 6.90's in the 1/8th and was a real good pulling ride I could reel in the slower cars where it would not do it before. I am going to play with the timing a bit. Also I was under it last week and found a transbrake solinoid on the side of my Turbo 400 and a couple times since its gotten cold if I try and move it in 1st gear its been feeling like its got a transbrake button pushed but as soon as you shift it back into 2nd gear its moving I was not even aware that this thing had a transbrake and it was never wired up. So when I take it down for the winter thats getting hooked up for sure. All in all I am pretty Tickled with how the car came around and impressed at the performance. Even alot of the guys I race with are impressed with it Too. Only got a couple more races and we are done but I will be cutting up everything that dont need to be on the car to make a pass and lighten up my ride. I will keep you posted. Thanks guys!!!!

Sounds like you have it sorted out pretty well there bigd. As far as winterizing your carb, I would pull it off, pull the bowls off and completely blow it out so that it's dry. I found that if you leave any fuel in it, as it evaporates, it leaves behind the white powdery corrosion. You can also lighty coat with wd40 after you dry it. I know it's a pain in the a$$, but if you don't, you'll pay the price. Cap off your vent on the fuel cell to keep air out while not in use for the winter. The other option is to fire it up once a week or so to keep the carb always full of fresh fuel. If you're in a cold climate, that could prove to be a chore.

Thats what I done last year with my Fairmont that Mark Sullens built the carb for. I was also told todrain the tank put a couple gallons of regular gas in it with some sea foam in it and run the fuel pump until it gets thru the system then spray out the carb with WD40 and let it set. I may take this carb off at the end of the season as I plan on getting my Dominator converted then I can totally clean this one out spray it out with wd40 and put it away. Then just fill my cell up with 89 octane runit up to the regulator cap it off and drain it in the spring so it does not sit dry. I am most likely going to 4 link it over the winter so I may have it all apart I plan on taking all the weight out of it over the winter and I am going to go with a 10.5W set up with a 4.30 pro gear and then go tubular A arms up front and loose all the weight I can off the car. Hookup my newly found transbrake and be ready to rock come springtime.!!!!have a good winter I will be in touch guys Race Safe!!!
