Okay, got fired-up on the E-85 yesterday. Everything was sounding great, using a GM HEI with locked timing, Accel Super Coil, MSD 6T, start/high speed retard, soft touch rev limiter, and 3-step. I got a new distributor and coil, this is a magnetic dist and E-coil, has to be triggered by MSD, no advance in it, only a pick-up coil and rotor button. Started right up, set the timing at 34 degrees, when I rev it the timing is advancing?? What is going on here? I did do a quick wiring job to do the conversion, but everything seems to be right.

What is the free play on the cam gear could be walking up the teeth. Mite have shim it. Other than look real close at the dist advance make sure it is not moving.

Everything was working fine until I installed the new dist, there is no mechanical advance in the new dist, I welded the old HEI. The only changes was a MSD pro billet knock-off and a external coil? This has got me puzzled

does it have a set curve built in and adjust with a lap top or programer?

None of that high tech stuff here, only a magnetic pick-up distributor and external coil.

What kind of timing light are you using. There could be something weird with interference or something making it read off. How does it run otherwise?

Ahh, figured out one problem, this is alost imbarrasing, the new dist does have a mechanical advance!!! It must be under the plate, I cant see it, but the rotor button will move and spring back to place, dist is installed in the car. I am using a standard timing light, no dial back, ect. Always worked fine before. Now, to find a way to lock this new dist ;D.
