Hello everybody. I am interested in changing over to E85 for the 2014 pulling season. I have done lots of internet research so far and am still not 100% convinced. I was wondering if the users on the forum could let me know if this is a good idea.
This is a sled pulling engine. If you all are not familiar with the sports I can fill you in or provide some links.
The new mill for this season will be.... 518 BBC N/A 14:1 Runs at 7800-8000 Iron Conventional Heads Manual trans Sniper JR Manifold More details if needed.
I have access to an E85 pump locally. This is why I am thinking about the change . I have read great things and horror stories. There are no other pullers around that have switched over so experience in my area is extremely limited.
Thanks and Merry Christmas.

Welcome puller! I think E85 would be good for what you're doing. I think that with that type of compression, you'll have to be sure to use E82 or greater to be on the safe side. Other than that, I see no reason not to use it. Give us some details about you're fuel system, such as pump, line sizes, regulator, etc. What type of fuel have you been using? Give Justus a call & he'll be able to get you a carb set up. When you say sled pulling, I assume this is like tractor pulling where you pull the sled for distance. ;D

Thanks for the welcome guys, and Merry Christmas. Yes. It is the same with the trucks as the tractors. Constant increasing load with distance. Currently I am running a Areomotive A1000 in tank pump with a bypass Aeromotive regulator. -10 from the pump to the reg. A single -6 to each bowl. -8 return to the cell. Carb is a 1050 QFX Quick Fuel Dominator running Sunoco 112.
More than likely the current fuel system will change to a spun aluminum cylinder style tank mounted above the weight rack with an externally mounted Aeromotive or Magna Fuel pump. This will also be a return style system. I am very excited about making the switch. Any and all info would be greatly apreciated. For instance....... I plan on having the new cell mounted above the weight rack in the front. Do I need to keep it in the shade or covered? (to minimize condensation) Will the -10 feed and -8 return lines be sufficient in size with the new volume requirements of E85? May be a silly question but.... Do all E85 carbs have green metering plates? Would like to be in sneaky mode if you know what I mean....

Sounds like your fuel system will do the job. I would cover the tank. Yes, your conversion can be done using blocks that look the same as stock (you sneak). ;D

YOU WILL NEED TO BY A SET OF FACTORY BLOCKS THAT HAVE BEEN MODIFIED TO FLOW RIGHT WITH E85.
THE STEEL HEADS WILL LOVE THE TEMP RELIEF OF ITS COOLING EFFECTS ON THE INTAKE RUNNERS . YOU WILL NEED TO RESIZE THE AIR BLEEDS AND POSS. BOOSTERS
IF YOU EVER THOUGHT OR RAN ALKY -E85 IS HIS KID BROTHER ABOUT 1" SHORTER AND SAME RIGHT HOOK

Thanks Adamsvega and all the comments from others. Anybody ever heard of or used Mark Sullins for their carb conversion or E85 carb purchase?

Thanks Adamsvega and all the comments from others. Anybody ever heard of or used Mark Sullins for their carb conversion or E85 carb purchase? Mark converted my 1150 Dominator for my drag car. Works great and he's a nice guy to deal with. Mark Sullins, check him out here.
