First off Hello!!!
Ok I have made the corprate decision to change over to E-85. 110 octane is killing my race budget.
Here is what I would like to know.
I think I am correct in saying I need to change metering blocks, jets and squirters.
Did I miss anything?
Who is the best to get the parts from?
Average cost of this change over?
I am running a Barry Grant 850 dp carb, will this cause me issues?
If so should I just send my Pro-Systems carb to Patrick to get converted, to this motor and E-85?
I am trying to avoid that as I am building another motor that I want to use that carb on.
Lastly just to make sure I am not going to need to change anything else. E-85 is compatable with braied rubber hose and will not corrode the rubber, pump and regulator.

Thanks for the kind words David and welcome to the board mopartony. I don't want to take anything away from Pro Systems, they build a really nice carb but the BG 850s are a breeze to convert yourself. BG jumps from a .160 booster on most of their carbs up to 825 to a .180 booster on 850 and up which plays right into the hands of an E85 conversion. All you have to do is change the metering blocks, air bleeds, needle and seats, main jets, power valve if you run one and accelerator pump nozzles, that's it. A RaceonE85.com Stage I kit will fix you right up. I even offer a core credit on your old metering blocks if you want. Thanks for your interest in E85 mopartony. You have plenty of help here to make your conversion a success.

LOL, Sorry Heath, I deleted my post for fear it had some wrong information in it. Didn't want to sound like an idiot.

No, it was good David and you are NOT an idiot. I talked to one of your buddies last night, Kirk. He said he had been running E85 for a year and loved it. He told me about you beating up on those dragsters your first time out on E85.

His name is "Curt", Heath. Glad to hear he gave you a holler. I mighta beat up on one more dragster and been in the final if I wouldn't have had that dang -.006 light in the 6th round. mopartony....In the post I deleted, I was just trying to say that Heath's stage 1 kit includes everything you need to VERY easily convert your carb to E85 yourself. Took me less than an hour total. Kits are custom tailored to your specific carb specs. Mine ran AWESOME the very first pass on e85. No stumbles. Idles perfect. And I picked up (at least) a couple of tenths over 110 race fuel. It's a no-brainer. When I started asking Heath questions, I was concerned about switching to something I was not real sure about...and after spending a good amount of money to get my carb setup by APD. I can tell you for a fact that(for me) switching was absolutely the right decision. I'll not be buying any $7+ a gallon racing fuel any time soon. ;D

Heath and Dave,
Thanks for the replies!! I have been doing some reading on this and last summer a buddy converted and picked up about a tenth thenth and a half with his car. He said he cut his fuel costs by half including the conversion.
How much more fuel will I use? Is 50% a good number to estimate by?
Ok now last question. Since this is a "green fuel" and the way everyone is all about the environment lately does this mean I have to change the race team name from Warchild racing to Tree Hugger racing?
Heath expect an order from me sometime in April or May. due to some travel I will not hit the track until June. Pro-Systems builds a nice carb and you are taking nothing away from them so no worries. I want to convert the BG carb I have. I am so not a fan of BG, but again it came with the motor.
I will post a pic of my car when I get home tonight.

How much more fuel will I use? Is 50% a good number to estimate by? You'll use a little more. Nowhere close to meth though. If it helps, I went 2 tt's and 6 rounds last Sunday on (less than) 5 gallons. SBC - 1/8th mile Ok now last question. Since this is a "green fuel" and the way everyone is all about the environment lately does this mean I have to change the race team name from Warchild racing to Tree Hugger racing? No, not tree hugger....."Corn Hugger". ;D

Cool that is better than what I was thinking it would be.
Corn hugger. good one. I am thinking about a personal plate that says something like corn squeeze or corn squeezer.
I'll need to find a flex fuel sticker for the car now.

We'll be glad to have you on board with us and E85 mopartony. Just let me know when you get ready. You can keep the warchild name and put some stickers on like we have on both sides of our car with Calvin taking a wiz on the word OPEC then a sticker on our scoop that say "This vehicle is Corn-Fed" E85 made in the USA!
