Check out the May 2009 Hot Rod magazine. Harold Martin did a LS1 motor with 8-71 blower and EFI. With 8-10# boost they maxed out the tunes for 93 octane pump gas, C12 @ 108 octane, and little old E85!! E85 the least expensive fuel at this point beat the other 2 fuels by 51 HP and 30-40 ft lbs of torque!! ~750 hp to ~800 hp!! This coming weekend Horsepower TV is supposed to do a E85 carb conversion to, and I imagine they do a dyno test with it as well. : Carlos

I saw the article in Hot Rod mag too Carlos, of course it's not surprising to those of us that already know the power of corn squeezin'. I also heard about the show coming up on Horsepower TV I just hope it's informative and doesn't try and steer folks in the wrong direction. If I see something on there that I KNOW is messed up I'll do what I can to get the word out but at least what you and I talked about years ago is coming to pass hu. You seeing all of this like 10 years ago Carlos just confirms what I have said all along, "You da MAN"!

Good morning Heath and all, Thanks to power of technology (DVR) ;D got to see the show!! What did you all think? Something that has been bothering me is why (technically) in the magazine article the 93 octane made 10 ft lbs more of torque. I can see where if the octane is enough on a setup near equal results, but that torque difference has me Last week I asked VP tech the question and the first answer basically was it was not a good test for C12 because the set up did not max out the timing that would allow C12 to do better. I asked the torque question again because using BDS and Weiand dynamic compression charts 9.5 compression and 8-10 # boost is equal to 14.5-16.0 dynamic compression which I would think would be good for C12, and I am surprised that it's not too high for 93 pump fuel. So far no answer, so I might have to move on to some blower people. I did send in the question to Harold Martin too but got no answer so far either. Carlos

Ok, I called Mike Janis (super engine builder and Pro Mod racer) about the article. Mike doesn't know exactly how the tuning and dyno test where done because he wasn't there, but he did say maybe the C12 could have used more advance. He says he knows boat guys that will use 93 with 8-9 # boost on 9.5-10 compression but that seems to be about the limit for 93. He says the C12 is a better fuel that in this test may have had more left. He said round track guys mix C12 with 93 and get more power then with just 93. Of course E85 has shown itself superior to both! Carlos
