I've got a 440 12.5 to1 compression ported 452 heads with 1.3/4 headers and edelbrocks performer RPM intake. The carb I am using is an 850 quick fuel E-85 carb. I have fouled 2 sets of plugs and still don't have it right! I have an LM1 and it is at 11.5-12 on a/f ratio. I have put in jet # 65 from 73 and now am at 73 from 65 on my air bleeds (Idle side) how much more should i go? Is my carb just way 2 much? I am mostly street and some strip time. my cam is big for chrysler at Dur.@ .050 is 246.4 In. and 253.6 on Exh. with .541 lift

Welcome rtcoronet440. I have a confession to make. I am a Mopar guy myself. I have a '68 Charger 451 stroker street/strip car in the works. I grew up in that very car. My Pops would burn the hides off it almost every time we left the stoplight. That car looks like it's running a hundred miles per hour sitting still. But enough about me. You say you bought a QF E85 carb. all ready to go. I have never even seen one of those in real life but you have one so I know they must exist. I too have an LM-1 but to be perfectly honest with you I don't pay it a lot of attention. When I first started using it I found out that I got all caught up in what it was telling me and kind of forgot to listen to my racing roots. After a short while I realized that running on E85 isn't rocket science and a good sound understanding of your combination is all you need. Your combinations sounds like a good one. The 850 may be a tad big but not terrible, you have room to grow which is always a good thing. Did you have a good gasoline tuneup with another carburetor? I'm just trying to establish a baseline here. There is a lot of chit chat on the Internet about carbs. and E85 but converting is more that just modifying your carb. Are you over pressurizing the bigger needle and seats (that don't require more than 6 psi) that are in the E85 carb. and dribbling fuel out of the bigger (.180 boosters)? Trust me, I know what you paid for this carb. and it will perform well for you when you get it tuned to your combination, it's just going to take a little work and I'm here for you so ask me anything (call me if you want 704-246-6500) and we will get this deal straightened out. E85 is the way to go. Don't loose sight of that.

Thank You for your time! I think alot of my problem is the power valve after looking and playing. I have a mech. race pump on the motor and a Magna-Fuel Reg. set at 5 psi, I have also set the float level at the bottom of the sight glass just to make sure i wasn't having any of those problems for now. My motor has pulls 6psi of vaccum in gear idleing. So I think it is dumping fuel in it while it is running, the power valve in it is was a 4.5 and now i installed a 2.5 it is better but now i need to put in my bigger jets after driving it today. i will later and see. if it keeps up i will call you. Thanks for your time!!!! I am the only one in my area running e85 and have no one else to ask.

From the sound of it the 4.5 power valve should have been right for you but if it's working better with the 2.5 GREAT! Sounds like you are on the right track. On your jets, typically you would jet up 8 to 10 sizes from your gasoline base line with a similar sized carburetor. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.
